Who we are

OUR
COMMUNITY

Women Donors Network is a multigenerational, multiracial community of donor organizers leveraging their collective power for justice.

We are a home for individuals with earned or inherited wealth, for community organizers, activists, and leaders. Our members come from different backgrounds and experiences but are connected by a shared vision. Since our founding in 2002, WDN has grown from a place where women worked to claim agency over their resources into a powerful network of nearly 300 members from 37 states.

Shaping Our Story

THE WDN STORY

WDN’s story began in 1990 as a home for progressive women to claim agency over their resources. This first iteration was called Resourceful Women. We were a leading edge space—many members identified as LGBTQ at a time when being queer wasn’t widely accepted, and many held more progressive views than their families and peers. Together, they found community and belonging.

In 1991, we changed our name to Women Donors Network, growing into a learning space where women built their skills as philanthropists. Next came a transformational focus on multiplying our impact through collective giving.

In 2017, as the political landscape shifted nationwide, we founded Women Donors Action to expand our advocacy efforts and political organizing. In the years that followed, the network continued to evolve, moving funds faster and farther than ever before, launching new initiatives and a new Strategic Plan, and growing our membership and reach.
